Weave any registered tartan, or create one of your own

Every tartan on the Scottish Register of Tartans is recorded as two short strings: a threadcount, which lists the stripe colours and widths of the half sett (like R6G6R70), and a palette, which maps each colour code to a wool shade (like DB=202060DARK BLUE;).

Sign up for a free account on the Register, find a tartan, and request its threadcount by email. Paste the two strings below exactly as they arrive, then generate a woven preview. Or start from one of these:

      Renderings are previews generated from the threadcount you provide; tartan designs may be protected, so check with the Scottish Register of Tartans before commercial use.

      The register's 137 wool shades

      Registered tartans are woven from the standard wool shades below. A palette colour outside this list still renders here, but a mill could not weave it from stock yarn. Codes repeat: the register files several distinct shades under the same family code.
